Surface Water Supply Project for Uluberia Phase-II, Howrah

The Uluberia municipality is one of the growing regions located on West Bank of River Hooghly and situated at a distance of 34KM from Howrah Railway Station. After independence, in 1982 August the Municipality had been formed with 16 commissioners. The town is delineated by the rural Mouzas under Gram Panchayet on the north, west, south and on the east and southeast by the river Hooghly and located on Latitude and Longitude of the municipality 22048’ N and 88023’ E respectively.
The municipality covers an area of 33.72 as per 2001 census. It comprises of 28 wards, 18 mouzas and 323203 holdings. (Delineation was done in the year 1998). The entire Municipal area is presently served through 15 numbers of deep tube wells and pump houses. The quantum of ground water supply is around 6 MLD, which is extremely inadequate in terms of specified per capita supply water norms. In the municipal area there is no treatment plant and the total water of 6 Mld is being supplied from 3 nos. overhead reservoir through the existing pipeline. The Northeast and Southwest part of Uluberia is not covered with any pipeline. However, the municipality is mostly ground water quantity and quality has deteriorated due to high content of iron and hardness. The availability of water is also very low and is grossly insufficient to cater to the growing urban population
